Celestial Views

It started when Mom surprised me with these pajama pants. Next, I opened up a back issue of Anthology magazine to a simple yet stunning map of the constellations. Then Design*Sponge featured some very colorful and modern prints by Brainstorm Print and Design, which lead me to yet more star charts. I can only conclude that astronomy and astrology are in this year, and are demanding my attention. Since most of us who live in cities can’t admire the heavens from our own backyards–between the fog in the Bay Area, the smog in SoCal, and the bright lights everywhere, I certainly can’t–I thought I’d provide an opportunity for some virtual stargazing via Spin. Sew. Sketch.

Despite the best efforts of any artist, just looking at star maps eventually becomes boring, which is why I’m stretching my definition of stargazing to include astrological and zodiac signs for the sake of aesthetic pleasure. Of course one loophole leads to another and soon definitions are expanding at a rate rivaling the universe–look carefully and you’ll find there’s a fictional constellation featured as well.

Due to a slight technical issue resulting from the very slow internet where I’m staying right now, the photos aren’t numbered properly–see the note above the source lists if you’re confused about what image belongs to what link!
