Macarons

First, I just want to note that on the west coast, it’s still Monday. I had nearly a half of an hour left to pull together a post before failing to follow last week’s promised schedule! I just blog better under pressure–that’s my reason and I’m sticking to it. Now that my late night posting has been explained, we can proceed to a more delicious topic: French macarons.

For the past two weeks, I’ve been watching what I eat and exercising more than usual. The new regimen was inspired partly by my upcoming Hawaiian vacation and partly by a salesgirl at my favorite store, who is not only thinner than me, but also has all the clothes I want and don’t have–combating jealousy meant either buying more clothes or extra stomach crunches, and stomach crunches are much cheaper. While my muscle tone and energy level have both increased, so has my desire for pastries. Hopefully that will be cured by a square of dark chocolate and a glimpse of Lucile Prache‘s posters celebrating the French macaron. Macarons have become trendy over the last few years–a sort of exotic (some might say elitist) sandwich cookie. I haven’t visited every bakery in Paris, but I feel confident in saying that Laduree’s macarons are some of the best you’ll find, a fact evidenced by the ease of finding pastel watercolors depicting Laduree boxes, bags, and storefronts.
