Bits & Pieces: Jolly Edition

1. Cat and dog illustrations, lively pastel hues, and whimsical painterly brushstrokes: Jolly Edition is undoubtedly a new favorite illustrator. While colorful luggage and minty green vespas may bring a smile to my face, greyhounds in coats and dachshunds going for brisk morning walks are by far the most irresistible of Jolly Edition’s playful offerings.

2. You may have noticed I’ve been a bit too busy for blogging lately–these paintings are two reasons why. The first is a (belated) birthday card for Boyfriend, the second a custom piece for a family friend who also happens to be a brand new graduate of the University of Portland.

3. In addition to producing the custom piece above, graduation season has also seen me tagging along on senior class trips (laser tag and Newport Beach, anyone?) and attending commencement ceremonies.

As a side note, Bill Nye (as in, the Science Guy) was the commencement speaker, and my friends and I were rather surprised to discover that Bill Nye is, to quote one of the graduates, a bit of a Debbie-downer.

4. Plus, yesterday was my 21st birthday! My lack of a birthday list meant Mom opted to provide a shopping spree, in addition to this delightfully vibrant, washi-tape inspired quilt:

Now that all that’s over with, time to catch my breath for a couple of weeks!
