Summer Vacation

The summer solstice remains weeks away, but as far as many people are concerned, it’s summer. Memorial Day (in my opinion the most relaxing of the patriotic holidays–all the fun of a day off with none of the July 4 pressure) marks the unofficial beginning of sunny, chlorine-scented days separated by short, warm nights. What better way to usher in the year’s most relaxing season than by getting started on some vacation plans? This year I’ll be taking my first real road trip, heading up to Portland, OR with Boyfriend. Although a road trip may be a quintessential American experience (one that will contrast nicely with last summer’s European adventure), once the weather warms and sunshine stretches farther into the evening, wanderlust kicks in and I start to crave any sort of trip. Whether I’m dreaming of a beach-saturated Hawaiian vacation, a drive up to Portland’s hipstery markets and breweries, or just spending a day in San Francisco’s coastal fog, now is about the time I’m ready to  board the first form of transportation I see and get out of town. I even know what I’ll be bringing with me, thanks to some inspiration from the posters featured below.
